The Collection
We made a better washable rug. Flexible and easy to clean, with an extraordinarily comfortable pile, these pieces are not mats: they’re the real deal, soft enough to cushion every step. Plus, their lightness and foldability makes washing easy.
The Design
In our washable Scrawl collection, minimalist design yields maximum effect thanks to abrash-dyed yarn. Abrash, also styled as abraj, is transliterated from Arabic, where it means dappled or speckled. This technique produces subtle differences in the dye lots, lending a covetable flow and movement in color. Weve added a contrasting black stripe that’s done in a slightly-shrunken pile for even more texture. The Stella rug has an all-over abrash pattern, like a solid but more dynamic.
The Material
Soft as wool with a very subtle silk-like sheen, our polyester is highly durable, OEKO-TEX certified for safety, mildew-resistant, and machine-washable. In this piece, it’s combined with a cotton backing that’s both strong and supple. Cotton, a vegetable fiber, is widely used across rug traditions because of its sturdiness and longevity.
The Maker
Our partner in Turkey has been in the rug business for almost thirty years, and are vocal advocates of change and progress. An expert in both yarn and rug production, they use recyclable material for their labels and packaging, and are devoted to increasing their use of recyclable and natural raw materials, as well as lowering their water and energy consumption.
The Designer
Our in-house, all-star design team collaborates across three different countries. Based in Los Angeles, Istanbul, and Mumbai, they put a lot of thought into each and every collection they design. Starting with the weave itself, they determine material and technique, then create moodboards to capture the look and feel before starting to design. When designs are finalized, they conduct an extensive sampling process, perfecting each style and color before it goes to production.
