In Spanish, Cestita stands for small basket, and Batera refers to a battery. Santa & Cole Cestita Batera Table Lamp is a petite, battery-operated version of the Santa & Cole Cestita Table Lamp, created by Miguel Mil in 1962. It retained the same design and structure, excluding the cord. Miguel Mil came into possession of an opal glass globe, accidentally. It inspired him to recreate a table lamp like the lanterns common in the Mediterranean. They created an opal glass using the traditional glass blowing technique, and a kid-friendly variant using polyethylene. A cherry wood framework made using the steam bending technique, housed the lampshade like a basket. It had a wooden handle that made it convenient to carry. In 2017, Miguel Mil developed a modern, improved version of this handcrafted article.

Santa & Cole Cestita Batera Table Lamp is battery powered, with a lithium battery located below the lampshade. It is chargeable using a USB cable. The battery charge depends on the light intensity, which can be set at three levels using a button on the lampshade. There is a LED indicator near it to show the status of the charge. In case of low battery, the indicator blinks for ten minutes before switching off. The battery needs to be charged at least every three months when not in use. This portable lamp can be used outdoors, but should not be left unattended for a long time to prevent wood degradation.
