Caravaggio Opal Pendant story

The Caravaggio Opal pendant combines the characteristic design with a completely different lighting effect. The Opal glass shade gives out a soft, dimmed light which is particularly suited for rooms where a more evocative lighting is required. Thanks to the transparent white glass, the light is emitted in all directions and therefore also lights up the lamp itself. In this way the lighted lamp appears as a floating drop of light, which in itself is very evocative, and at the same time wraps its surroundings in a soft, pleasant light.

Caravaggio is a series of metal pendants with an eye-catching high gloss lacquer. Creating a simple, soft design for small and large pendants was the main idea behind Cecilie Manz Caravaggio series. The curves passed through a number of shapes during the design process, but this version captures a feminine form. The suspension technology is masculine in construction, creating the right counterbalance to the shades feminine lines. Caravaggio is characterized by direct light without glare. The uplight from the pendants top also adds to the rooms ambient light. This pendant is named after the Italian Baroque painter Caravaggio, who is known for his dramatic paintings with large contrast between light and shadow.

Cecilie Manz

“Design should never receive greater focus than the light itself.”

This is the message from the Danish designer, Cecilie Manz. This positive conviction stems from her upbringing in a creative environment of artists and craftsmen. Her interest in design and materials brought her to Danmarks Designskole (the Danish School of Design), where she studied a curriculum of furniture and implements. Her determination to explore function and ability to think conceptually was sharpened further during a period of study in Helsinki. Today in her own design studio, Cecilie Manz strives to combine conceptualism with the Danish penchant for durable materials and sublime, craftsman-like finish.

An innovative fire and sense of detail express themselves in Cecilie Manzs lighting designs for Lightyears. As she puts it, new products should either be innovative and rejuvenating, or offer improvement, in order to earn recognition. Thus, she has done her utmost to develop designs that do not steal attention from the light, but ensure that function always prevails.
