Amigo stands for Aplique Miguel y Gonzalo or Miguel and Gonzalos ceiling lamp. It was the first joint project of Gonzalo Mil, and his renowned designer father, Miguel Mil. Created for Santa & Cole in 2009, it represents two different generations of Spanish design. In 1988, Gonzalo Mila studied architecture and started working for his father. Later he studied industrial design, and in 1994, founded a design studio, Ines-Mil studio. In 1999, he started working for Santa & Cole Design Editions briefly, before moving onto doing independent projects under his own studio. When Santa & Coles headquarters in Bellochwas being remodeled, the interior design work was commissioned to Gonzalo Mil. He created a simple lamp design for lighting the hallways, walls, ceilings, etc.
Santa & Cole Amigo Wall Lamp is a white cylindrical metal structure. It has a central opaque disc that holds a light source, which is a built-in module of 54 LEDs. The bright light is sheltered by a vertical translucent shade. It is screwed into an outer ring with the same height, but a larger diameter. The light gets reflected in the space between the two walls and cannot travel out sideways. So the light produced is glare-free and evenly distributed. The screw fitting is airtight and protects the electrical components from moisture, dust, insects, etc. So, it is easy to maintain and always shines a bright, clear light reminding one of a glowing halo. The lamp is suitable for both indoor and outdoor lighting. Its shielded design allows it to be used even in damp locations.
